I was so excited for this assignment since last quarter when I saw people making chairs with woods. I thought it was cool to make own chair. Since I use to draw and paint a lot, I usually think I wish I can make my own sculptures. So when I got this assignment, I had a lot of ideas making a chair but I do know that I want to make different chair with otherpeople so I was thinking of making human shape of chair and I can sit comfortable.My first of goal of making chair was comfortable chair and also since I’m from Korea, I want to use the idea of having no arms and short legs. After I sketch my ideas, I find that I would be able to make chair that actually 2 people can sit together. But not facing each other. People usually talk with facing each other. Sometimes you can’t say that you want to with eye contact, So it would be cool two people lean against each other with facing opposite way and say that you want. Since I get the idea, I also want to make strong chair, So I think many long pieces of woods make more strong and cool design.  Before I make a chair, I was excited but I was so afraid of going woodshop since I don’t know how to use tools and I don’t know have any experience of making a sculpture with wood pieces. This is also my part of bad habit that I usually afraid and scared of something before even I start. However, the guy from woodshop helped me a lot. He explained nicely whenever I asked him questions. So I wasn’t afraid at all during making a chair and I actually enjoyed having time woodshop and using all the machines and tools that they have. Also I satisfied by myself accomplishing my chair too. If I have another chance to go making sculpture with woodshop, I would love to go woodshop and have fun again.

This assignment was very interesting and fun for me since this one is group project. We gathered all manipulations of paper that we made and then we decide to use one of my sculptrue that looks like honey bee house shape. So we started to make a bunch of them for almost a week and then we chose a place that we want to put our paper sculpture. The reason we chose the place next to holmes entrance was the wall color was very dark brown color. We thought that would be easy for people to look our piece since paper sculpture is white color. Also the light helped to show the shadow on the wall. Shadow makes lots of difference that fill more space. So I think the best part of doing this job was choosing the space that has dark color. 

Since I’m not used to make sculptures, I was so scared of doing first assignment with paper. So I started to find the diefinition of ”manipulation” and “fabrication”. Manipulation means to treat or operate with or as if with the hands or by mechanical means especially in a skillful manner. Fabrication means  the act or process of fabricating.  As I said before, since I know that I’m not good at 3D, I kept thinking that I should put more efforts than other project. So I drew lots of ideas before I start making. Actually I spent more than 12 hours making these paper sculptures. But I have never felt that I wasted of my time and got bored. I could tell I really emjoyed myself making paper sculptures cause I didn’t expect index card would be different  shape of transformed sculpture. I started to manipulate the index card and got excited. I used  knife, scissors for cutting paper and rulers for measuring. I know we didn’t have to measure exactly, but I wanted to make different things with other people. I think that’s why I satisfy with my pieces that I made for first project cause I spent more time and put more efforts.

First time when I do this project, I had no idea how I’m going to explore the line because the word ‘exploration’ is very   unfamilar for me.  Even though I started this line project, I couldn’t really think anything. After I started with word, I tried to find all the shape of circle with slow walking. That slow walking helps to give me an idea of my word, Circle. I was very happy when   got the idea of my word. My idea was making a circle with my hand. I usually have busy days and never have time to think about my own time which includes my childhood. finally I found out interest thing that I used to make hand circle when I played with my little sister,Nicole. SoI express my child hood with circle. Also I kept reminding not to forget my word “Circle” when I focus on my structure… I started to think I should put all my pictures in circle. When people think about their life, sometimes you have hard ,sad or happy time and those are going over and over  again. So It represents rotation of my life as circle and also includes repeating.

The reason I chose black and white color is that shows hardship. Even though I smiled in pictures, I was struggled with all those hard things in my mind which includes homesick. But The color pictures represent the my happy moment.

I do know those things are going to be over and over again. However, as I said life is not perfect, so I’m going to enjoy my rotation life.
